Deputy Retail Manager - Food Retail up to £35,913 + 41 days holiday

London

I am working on an outstanding opportunity for a deputy retail manager to work for a leading University Student Union representing over 40,000 students across two campuses in London. The working hours and benefits are exceptional for retail, the shifts in the first year will be between 8am and 6pm and you will only be expected to work a maximum of 1 Saturday in 2. The shops are not open on Sunday. Benefits include 41 days annual holiday and a sector leading pension scheme which includes an employer pension contribution of 19% of your salary with an employee contribution of 6% alongside a highly competitive basic salary of £30,696 to £35,913 which is based on experience.

Their retail proposition will be 2 convenience stores in Stratford and Warren Street, a University range of branded clothing and apparel with an online store as well as a number of pop-up shops throughout the Student Year. You will be reporting into the head of Retail and as such will be 2nd in command across all of the retail outlets.

You will be hands on within the convenience stores, running the shift whilst on duty, leading a team of 12-15 part time staff who are students at the University who are working to support their studies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Hands on in the retail outlets, leading the team of supervisors and front-line staff to deliver a high-quality retail experience.

  • Recruit, coach, manage and train the team in till training, operating procedures including open and close and all systems.

  • Ensuring the team's inductions and ongoing training deliver best practice including food safety, food hygiene and the Licensing Act.

  • Conduct regular reviews, performance mange when required, mange holidays, sickness records.

  • Recording accurate stock management and inventory through efficient ordering and ensuring sell by lines are managed closely.

  • Placing orders with suppliers and partners using in house systems and ensuring invoices are reconciled and paid.

  • Optimise product availability, minimising stock loss and wastage and ensuring all procedures are followed.

  • Utilising customer feedback, surveys and mystery shops to improve the customer /team member experience.

  • Working with the retail manager to deliver efficient rotas and to meet labour targets.

  • Have ideas and plans on how to enhance both the financial and operational performance of the retail units.

We are keen to hear from candidates who have a proven track record as a deputy or assistant manager in convenience or retail store management. As this is a stand-alone operation you will need to demonstrate you are highly organised and solutions focused as you will not have the support structure and processes from working with a large chain. You will need first class communication skills and to fully embrace the values and diversity of the University and the students you serve and support throughout their academic journey. You will ideally live and be able to commute easily to the Olympic Park in Stratford and Warren Street where the campuses are based.

Interviews are immediately available.
